Background
Wyld Networks, a UK-based technology company, offers low-cost satellite connectivity, enabling businesses to access their IoT data from anywhere in the world. Through partnerships with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite providers, Wyld addresses global mobile network coverage gaps, offering affordable connectivity for remote and underserved areas. Intralink engaged Foley to support Wyld’s entry into the Australian market by identifying partnership opportunities and conducting market research.
Challenges
Australia faces significant connectivity challenges, especially in rural and regional areas where industries like agriculture and energy are concentrated. Two-thirds of the country lacks mobile coverage, limiting IoT adoption in these critical sectors. The National Broadband Network (NBN Co) offers satellite broadband services, but these often fall short of the bandwidth and speed requirements for regional businesses.
Despite these challenges, the Australian Government’s Better Connectivity Plan is investing over A$1.1 billion to improve connectivity in rural areas, creating a growing demand for IoT solutions. Agriculture, which represents 65% of Australian farmland, is increasingly embracing digitization and IoT technologies, but poor mobile coverage continues to be a major barrier. This presents a significant opportunity for Wyld’s satellite-based IoT connectivity solutions.
Solution
Foley conducted a 10-week market research project, reaching out to 46 Australian companies and securing 8 meetings with key players in the IoT sector. Wyld Networks was presented with two market entry options: forming strategic partnerships with IoT technology providers or establishing direct relationships with large corporations in agriculture and energy.
Foley recommended focusing on strategic partnerships with IoT system integrators, sensor manufacturers, and data analytics companies. These partnerships offer Wyld access to well-established networks with large corporations, government agencies, and research organisations, providing additional growth opportunities in the Australian market.
Results
Through Foley’s market research and outreach efforts, Wyld Networks identified several promising partnership opportunities. These engagements positioned Wyld for future growth in the Australian market, particularly in addressing the connectivity challenges in the agriculture and energy sectors. By forming strategic alliances, Wyld is well-placed to capitalise on Australia’s increasing demand for IoT solutions, enabling better connectivity in remote areas and helping businesses operate more efficiently.
